Heirloom Watermelons

Growing melon and cucmber on an arched arbor

Old Apple Valley Farms in Loudoun County Virginia grows and sells heirloom watermelons and other melon varieties. Watermelons are for sale starting in August. Their maturity depends somewhat on the rain and/or dry weather in July and August. These are heirloom melons. They have somewhat more seeds than many grocery varieties but they are very sweet. Their rind is narrow, which makes more melon to eat. The green part of the rind is tougher than most which protects them from varmits. Great eaten cold in August and September.

Season generally is Aug 1 – Oct 15.
